A Brazilian Loanee Writes His Name into French Record Books

Carlos Eduardo is our player of the week for his five-goal showing in Nice’s 7–2 rout of Guingamp.

Before he was scoring quintets in the French first division, Eduardo began his senior career with Desportivo Brasil and featured for several other Brazilian sides on loan. He finally settled with Estoril of the Portuguese second tier in 2011, making 23 appearances and helping his team clinch promotion. The following season was even better as the 23-year-old midfielder scored four times and Estoril qualified for the Europa League.

Eduardo soon moved to Porto but struggled for action throughout the campaign, influencing his current loan to Nice. So far, the move has paid off — the Brazilian has six goals through seven starts and Nice sits a modest seventh in the Ligue 1 table.

No player will likely enjoy a bigger haul this season than Eduardo’s five against Guingamp, a scoring feat that hadn’t been accomplished in France since 1984. Check out the highlights here.
