Colorado Rapids defender tears up when he’s told he made the MLS All-Star squad for the first time

July 19, 2015

Less than a year ago, Colorado Rapids defender Drew Moor tore his ACL and meniscus. It took him eight months to work his way back and in April, he returned to the Rapids’ lineup.

Though the 31-year-old Moor has five caps for the U.S. national team and won the MLS Cup with Colorado in 2010, he had never been selected as an All-Star. In the video above, he expresses how much it would mean to him to add that honor to his credits, especially so soon after a major injury. He is then asked to read a piece of paper as the cameras roll, and as he does, he learns that he has been selected to be in the All-Star squad that will face Tottenham on July 29.

The joy overcomes Moor and the tears soon follow. Even if you think the MLS All-Star Game is just another meaningless friendly, it’s still heart warming to see Moor’s reaction and pride and humility upon receiving the news.

Here’s the full team that will face Spurs:

Goalkeeper: Nick Rimando (Real Salt Lake), David Ousted (Vancouver Whitecaps FC)

Defenders: Omar Gonzalez (LA Galaxy), Matt Besler (Sporting Kansas City), DaMarcus Beasley (Houston Dynamo), Chris Tierney (New England Revolution), Laurent Ciman (Montreal Impact), Chad Marshall (Seattle Sounders FC), Drew Moor (Colorado Rapids), Tony Beltran (Real Salt Lake)

Midfielders: Kaká (Orlando City SC), Michael Bradley (Toronto FC), Benny Feilhaber (Sporting Kansas City), Graham Zusi (Sporting Kansas City), Fabian Castillo (FC Dallas), Steven Gerrard (LA Galaxy), Frank Lampard (New York City FC)

Forwards: Clint Dempsey (Seattle Sounders FC), David Villa (New York City FC), Robbie Keane (LA Galaxy), Sebastian Giovinco (Toronto FC), Kei Kamara (Columbus Crew SC)

When Steven Gerrard was told that he too would be on the All-Star team, he said, “That’s brilliant! So what is that?”
