Szetela gets two wins in one night

The New York Cosmos beat Miami FC 4–0 in their final home game of the NASL regular season, breaking their own record with a 19th consecutive home win in the process. But this was just the opening act for Cosmos midfielder Danny Szetela, who proposed to his girlfriend on the pitch after the final whistle with the help of some fans who stuck around after a match that was over at halftime.

When a banner asking “Will you marry me?” was unfurled in the stands (by just enough people needed to do so), Szetela got down on one knee and pulled out a ring. The Cosmos’ Twitter account confirms that his proposal was accepted.

You always hope these public proposals go well because it’s a special kind of embarrassment when they don’t. Had Szetela’s request been rejected, at least there wouldn’t have been too many witnesses, though. It was clever of him to play it safe by telling his teammates to score four goals in the first half.
