Paul Scholes has always been admired for managing to combine an incredible football career at the highest level with an exceptionally humble approach to celebrity. But since hanging up his boots (twice), the Ginger Ninja has let the general public know what his voice actually sounds like by lending his opinion to BT Sport.

The former Manchester United star was on the couch for Matchday Live with Fletch and Sav for Liverpool’s dramatic win over Tottenham on Tuesday. Durng the show, he rose approximately 6,000% in the estimation of most football fans when he subtly mouthed the word “knobhead” under his breath, aiming his barb at host and fellow Class of ’92 graduate Robbie Savage.

The insult, accompanied by a brilliant deadpan face, was more beautifully timed than any goal the legendary midfielder ever scored.
