The women of Vitoria

Photograph by Adrienne Grunwald

For the past five years, photographer Adrienne Grunwald has made a series of trips to document women’s soccer in Brazil. She shot these images of Vitória in 2012, the same year the club finished fourth in the Copa Libertadores Femenina, South America’s only continent-wide competition for women. Grunwald’s muted color photographs, which show scenes of team intimacy and hard work in a pastel landscape, were made with a medium format Hasselblad film camera.
