At Borussia Dortmund, Jurgen Klopp established himself as one of the most likable people in football. After enduring the unintentional comedy of Brendan Rodgers for three years, Liverpool were understandably excited to bring Klopp in.
But when Klopp made the mistake of dubbing himself “The Normal One” during his introductory press conference, the club that brags about turning supporters into customers couldn’t help themselves. And now, a mere five months later, they have also proven their ability to turn managers into terrible, terrible products.
Just look at the shirt above. That’s a shirt that’s actually for sale in Liverpool’s official club shop. If Klopp had final approval on the wording of that shirt, it would surely read:
This is Jurgen,
Jurgen has passion
Jurgen is a believer
Jurgen is normal
Jurgen is embarrassed to have his name associated with this T-shirt
Be like Jurgen
But if the shirt isn’t enough for you, there’s also the mug…
And the water bottle…
And even the mousepad (for people who still live in 1996)…
Then there’s this…
Yes, that’s a hashtag on a T-shirt. This is what it’s come to. Jurgen Klopp has been reduced to a hashtag on a T-shirt.
As awful as this is, it should be noted that Brendan Rodgers couldn’t be more jealous right now.
UPDATE: It looks like they’ve added another shirt for the ladies, since they apparently feel that only men should aspire to “be like Jurgen” while women should only aspire to be “Mrs. Klopp.”
I didn’t think this collection could get worse, but adding some sexism accomplished that.
