Former Italy goalkeeper Walter Zenga has been unveiled as Wolverhampton’s new manager and at his first press conference he got a little carried away while describing the importance of the Championship club abroad.

From the Express & Star:

Asked why he decided to come to Wolves, Zenga said: “Why not? Wolves are one of the biggest teams for us in Italy. The football is passionate.

“This club all the time is in our mind. Even though the club play only one time against an Italian club. It is a very, very important club.

“I have had a lot of messages from my friends and discovered they are Wolves fans. I am proud for me to be here. This is an amazing club. I will give my best to give this heart to this club.”

Steady, Walter. You’re firmly in Robbie Keane territory with this.

Zenga has managed a fascinating collection of clubs, starting with the New England Revolution in MLS, where he finished out his playing career. From there, he went on to the likes of Steaua Bucharest, Red Star Belgrade, Catania, Palermo, Sampdoria, and a slew of clubs in the middle east.

It remains unclear if all of those clubs are the biggest in Italy, too.
