The Bosnia and Herzegovina striker lashes out in an odd way
A rare occurrence took place in Sunday’s World Cup qualifier match between Bosnia and Greece: a player pulled down another’s shorts in a fit of anger.
In the final 10 minutes of the contest, Bosnia and Herzegovina forward Edin Dzeko controlled a pass and headed towards Greece’s corner. While the 30-year-old striker ran towards the space, Greek defender Sokratis Papastathopoulos began to harass Dzeko — or headbutting the striker’s backside.
Dzeko eventually fell to the ground only to have Sokratis stand over him and grab the ball out of his hands. As Sokratis attempted to walk away, Dzeko reached for the Greek’s shorts and pulled them down.
Due to the limited leg mobility caused by his shorts being lowered, the Greece defender fell to the ground, initiating a 22-man shoving match.
After the clash, fellow Greece defender Papadopoulous earned a straight red in the brawl while Dzeko received his second yellow of the game.
Both clubs finished the match with 10 men and drew 1–1 after Giorgos Tzavellas equalized in the fifth minute of stoppage time to make up for a first-half own goal by Orestis Karnezis.
Although this should be commonly known by now, the moral of the story is: Don’t pull down your opponent’s pants.
