Fan on mobility scooter invades pitch, helps get Blackpool match abandoned

May 2, 2015

Blackpool fans stepped up their protests against the club’s owners, the Oyston family, by staging a pitch invasion shortly after halftime of the team’s match against Huddersfield Town. And one of those pitch invaders happened to be riding a mobility scooter.

At the very bottom of the Championship table, Blackpool’s relegation to League One was certain going into their final match of the season. So fans used the opportunity to continue their protests against the Oystons — a miserable group of people who operate the club on an unworkable budget and make a habit of suing fans.

After the match was abandoned, the club released the following statement:

The club will work with the relevant authorities to take appropriate action against all those responsible for disorder offences inside the stadium. The club will also co-operate fully with The Football Association and The Football League in light of any investigations that follow on from the match being abandoned.

The club would like to place on record its gratitude to the ground safety officer, stewards and police for their efforts today, as the operation managed to successfully avoid any injuries to those in attendance at the stadium.

The club would like to offer its sincere apologies to Huddersfield Town Football Club, its supporters, manager, players and directors, as well as the Blackpool supporters who remained in the stands.

Further updates will be provided by the club as and when new information becomes available.

Sadly, it seems like this situation might still get worse before it gets better.
